About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop, validate, and optimize plastic injection molding processes for new and existing products
- Lead process development activities including mold trials and production readiness
- Analyze molding performance to enhance quality, reduce scrap, and improve cycle times
- Partner with Tooling and Product Development on mold design reviews and new product launches
- Evaluate and recommend plastic materials and resins based on performance and cost
- Utilize scientific molding principles and statistical methods to establish robust processes
- Troubleshoot molding defects such as flash, short shots, sink marks, and warpage
- Develop process documentation including setup sheets and validation reports
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Process Technicians and production personnel
- Support capital projects involving molding equipment and automation
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Plastics, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Polymer Engineering
- Experience with plastic injection molding processes in manufacturing
- Knowledge of polymer materials, resin behavior, and mold design
- Understanding of statistical methodologies including DOE, SPC, and root cause analysis
- Experience troubleshooting molding processes and driving continuous improvement
- Strong analytical and project management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with scientific molding methodologies and RJG training
- Knowledge of automation, robotics, and vision systems
- Experience with 3D CAD software and mold design reviews
- Working knowledge of metrology equipment like CMMs or CT scanning
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certifications
