About the role

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate operational research projects and staff across multiple greenhouse sites, including Main Greenhouse, South, and Totem.
  • Manage resource allocation and staffing to ensure the successful prioritization of research projects.
  • Oversee technical staff, providing guidance, performance evaluations, and training for new users.
  • Develop research methods, interpret data, and assess infrastructure feasibility for current and potential clients.
  • Prepare detailed documentation regarding project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Manage facility maintenance and liaise with building operations to resolve technical issues.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide operational backup for the Research Platform Manager.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Applied Plant Science or a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience in a research or plant science environment.
  • Experience working within a greenhouse environment.
  • Knowledge of Argus and Priva climate control software.
  • Valid BC Pesticide Applicator Certificate.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industry or commercial greenhouse operations.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex automated climate control systems (heating, lighting, venting, CO2).
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation, fertilization, pest monitoring, and safe chemical handling.
  • Experience managing multiple research projects and documenting technical protocols.
  • Ability to train and lead large, diverse teams of staff, students, and researchers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build connections with academic and industry partners.
