Plans Examiner I

Responsibilities

• Examine and review construction plans for residential structures to verify compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, and energy codes
• Prepare and write comment letters to communicate code deficiencies to project owners and design teams
• Visit construction sites to perform periodic inspections of foundations, framing, plumbing, and mechanical systems
• Provide technical guidance to architects, engineers, contractors, and homeowners regarding code requirements and life safety
• Maintain accurate inspection records and permit documents using specialized computer software
• Build effective working relationships with internal staff, industry professionals, and the public

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing building inspections
• Possession of an ICC Residential Building Inspector certification (or equivalent)
• Valid driver's license with a good driving history
• Demonstrated knowledge of building structural, life safety, energy conservation, mechanical, and plumbing codes

Preferred Qualifications

• ICC Residential Plans Examiner certification
• College degree in architecture or engineering
• Experience or training in the building trades or construction industry
