About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide professional ecological advice across the planning system to protect and enhance biodiversity.
- Review planning applications and interpret wildlife and habitats legislation.
- Undertake Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA).
- Review biodiversity net gain (BNG) proposals and biodiversity gain conditions.
- Assess development proposal compliance with Nutrient Neutrality.
- Negotiate with applicants, agents, and consultees to agree on appropriate mitigation and planning conditions.
- Undertake site visits and ecological surveys, including monitoring BNG sites.
- Provide ecological input to council nature policy development.
Requirements
- Degree (or equivalent) in ecology, nature conservation, or a closely related discipline.
- Membership of, or active progression towards membership of, a relevant professional body such as CIEEM.
- Knowledge of wildlife legislation and ecological best practice within the planning system.
- Experience providing technical ecological advice, including HRA and BNG.
- Proficiency in ecological field survey techniques.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical advice to diverse audiences.
- Full driving licence and ability to travel throughout the county, including over rough terrain.
