Pipe Layer

Responsibilities

• Install pipe in storm sewers, gas utilities, and water mains
• Position, cut, and fuse pipe using glue, heat, or slip jointing
• Maintain depth by checking laser beams or grade stakes and communicating with operators
• Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using hand tools
• Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, and gravel
• Inspect pipe fittings for defects and cleanliness
• Perform machine tasks such as tapping soil and jackhammering
• Load, transport, and unload tools, equipment, and supplies
• Maintain erosion control products and liners

Requirements

• At least 3 years of sitework experience laying pipe in a construction setting
• Ability to work outside in various weather elements
• Physical strength and endurance to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch for long periods
• Ability to lift, carry, and manipulate heavy construction materials and tools
• Ability to follow specific directions and set procedures
• Strong communication skills for using hand signals with equipment operators
