About the role

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute a comprehensive schedule of tuning, regulation, voicing, and preventive maintenance for a large fleet of concert grand and upright pianos.
  • Diagnose mechanical and acoustical problems and devise precision solutions to meet international performance standards.
  • Design and fabricate custom parts to address mechanical wear, material fatigue, and environmental changes in modern and historical instruments.
  • Provide consultative services for the assessment and selection of new pianos and musical equipment.
  • Maintain detailed technical records of all repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities.
  • Manage inventory of acoustical and electronic parts, tools, and equipment within budget allocations.
  • Ensure all technical work adheres to strict safety requirements for faculty, students, and staff.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a technical college/institute or completion of a recognized apprenticeship.
  • Minimum of five years of related professional experience.
  • Expertise in piano design and construction across various makes and historical periods.
  • Refined aural discrimination skills and the ability to tune by ear to the highest standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various tuning systems.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A professional reputation for successful work with major performing institutions and international artists.
  • Specialized expertise in adjusting multi-component mechanisms and calibrating acoustical vibrations.

  • Experience with digital pianos and relevant electronic tuning/maintenance equipment.
