About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide outpatient clinical care, including pre-operative and post-operative evaluation and management for Plastic Surgery and Surgical Oncology patients.
- Conduct initial patient evaluations and follow-up visits both in person and virtually.
- Perform minor clinical procedures such as tissue expander and drain removals, and wound care.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care between Surgical Oncology and Plastic Surgery to ensure continuity of care and timely treatment planning.
- Order and interpret diagnostic testing and imaging, and prescribe medications in accordance with Michigan state regulations.
- Act as a clinical liaison for patients, families, and referring teams to support patient education and care transitions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and attend tumor boards to discuss patient history and treatment status.
Requirements
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
- Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by ARC-PA (or predecessor agencies CAHEA/CAAHEP).
- National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
- Michigan Controlled Substance License.
- Current DEA registration.
- AHA approved BLS (or ACLS completed through the UMHS Simulation Center).
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of experience as an APP caring for Plastic Surgery patients.
- One year of full-time experience providing care to surgical oncology patients within the past four years.
- Two or more years of full-time, direct patient care experience as an APP in an inpatient or outpatient setting within the past four years.
- Demonstrated ability to perform independently and manage complex clinical or social issues.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with an interest in long-term patient relationships.
