About the role

Responsibilities

  • Assess and triage patients referred for admission from external sources, the emergency department, or other internal clinical services.
  • Perform comprehensive health and medical histories, physical examinations, and complete all necessary admission documentation.
  • Manage the care of admitted patients, including ordering diagnostic studies, medications, and treatments for acute and co-existing conditions.
  • Coordinate and lead patient and family communication, including discussing goals of care and delineating code status.
  • Manage patients in moderate care settings, including those requiring specialized respiratory support.
  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary rounds, safety huddles, case conferences, and collaborative educational series.
  • Orient and precept medical students, physician assistant students, and newly onboarding APPs.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the ARC-PA (or predecessor agencies CAHEA/CAAHEP).
  • NCCPA certification.
  • Current Michigan Physician Assistant license.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License and current DEA registration.
  • ACLS/BLS certification.
  • At least 1 year of clinical advanced practice provider employment experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of advanced practice employment experience in inpatient internal medicine.
  • Recent inpatient internal medicine employment (within the last 3-5 years).
  • Intensive care unit (ICU) advanced practice employment experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clinical tasks with high attention to detail and critical thinking.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and on-call responsibilities.
