About the role
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with physicians, PAs, and pharmacists to evaluate, admit, and treat patients with malignant hematologic diagnoses
- Assess and triage hematologic patients referred from clinics, the emergency department, or other internal clinical services
- Perform physical examinations, complete medical histories, and manage documentation related to patient admissions
- Order diagnostic studies, medications, and treatments while managing co-existing conditions
- Perform invasive and non-invasive procedures, including bone marrow biopsy and lumbar puncture
- Coordinate patient transfers and lead communication efforts with patients and families regarding goals of care
- Manage patients in moderate care settings, including those requiring non-invasive ventilation
- Participate in clinical education, case conferences, and the precepting of medical and PA students
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- NCCPA certification
- Current Michigan Physician Assistant license
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License
- Current DEA registration
- ACLS/BLS certification
- At least 1 year of clinical advanced practice provider (APP) employment experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous advanced practice employment in hematology/oncology (inpatient preferred)
- Experience with bone marrow biopsy and/or lumbar puncture for intrathecal chemotherapy
- Previous experience in hospital medicine or acute inpatient care
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clinical tasks with high attention to detail
