Physical Therapist Assistant

Responsibilities

• Carry out programs of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients as directed by the physical therapist
• Administer treatments including exercise, gait training, massage, whirlpool, hot packs, diathermy, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs, and traction
• Instruct patients on the proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, braces, and prosthetic appliances or devices
• Administer intermittent and static traction to relieve neck and back pain
• Observe patients during treatments and compile/evaluate data on responses and progress to report to the physical therapist
• Fit, adjust, and train patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices
• Confer with physical therapy staff and other health team members to exchange and evaluate patient information for treatment planning

Requirements

• Associate’s degree from a CAPTE accredited institution
• One year of clinical experience as a PTA following graduation
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted PTA license or current APTA certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Valid US work authorization
