Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise using Epic Beaker/Rover
• Collect blood samples from patients of all ages in an outpatient setting
• Properly package specimens for delivery via pneumatic tube system or hand delivery
• Provide collection instructions to patients and assist with urine sample collection
• Check-in patients and assist them to the draw room as needed
• Stock blood drawing areas and carts while maintaining clean, safe, and sterile environments
• Communicate collection issues with appropriate clinic staff and resolve patient order issues

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program
• Ability to perform venipunctures and capillary punctures according to CLSI guidelines
• Thorough knowledge of asepsis, manual dexterity, and accuracy
• Ability to utilize institutional computer systems
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to perform in stressful situations and handle large patient volumes
• Physical ability to stand, stoop, push, lift, and walk distances up to 6 city blocks

Preferred Qualifications

• Phlebotomy (ASCP) certification or eligibility
• One to two years of practical phlebotomy experience
