Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens via venipuncture or micro techniques for laboratory analysis
• Assess patient condition to determine the most effective collection method
• Greet patients, verify demographic data, and maintain accurate voucher information
• Instruct patients on the collection of non-blood specimens such as urine and stool
• Prepare completed samples for courier and process drop-offs
• Investigate and resolve issues regarding mislabeled or unsatisfactory specimens
• Maintain and perform quality assurance on laboratory equipment like centrifuges and incubators
• Ensure adequate supply levels and stock dissemination

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization, training from a medical institution, one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting, or CMA certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types
• Experience processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge
• Familiarity with medical EMR systems
• Knowledge of medical terminology
