Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens via venipuncture or micro techniques for laboratory analysis
• Greet patients, maintain patient flow, and verify demographic data and voucher information
• Assess patient condition to determine the most effective sample collection method
• Instruct patients on the collection of non-blood specimens such as urine and stool
• Prepare completed samples for courier and process drop-offs
• Perform quality assurance on equipment including centrifuges, refrigerators, and incubators
• Investigate and resolve issues regarding mislabeled or unsatisfactory specimens
• Maintain adequate supply levels and respond to information requests via phone

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization, medical training, or CMA certification
• One or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types
• Experience processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge
• Familiarity with medical EMR systems
• Knowledge of medical terminology
