Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens accurately via venipuncture or micro techniques for laboratory analysis
• Greet patients, maintain patient flow, and verify accurate demographic and voucher information
• Assess patient condition to determine the most effective specimen collection method
• Instruct patients on the collection of various non-blood specimens such as urine and stool
• Prepare completed samples for courier and process drop-offs
• Maintain and perform quality assurance on laboratory equipment including centrifuges and refrigerators
• Investigate and resolve issues regarding mislabeled or unsatisfactory specimens

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization, training from a medical institution, one or more years of phlebotomy experience, or CMA certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types
• Experience processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge
• Familiarity with medical EMR systems
• Knowledge of medical terminology
