Phlebotomist/Lab Technician

Responsibilities

• Collect, label, and prepare blood specimens for patient testing via venipuncture and finger sticks
• Maintain specimen integrity using aseptic techniques and following department isolation procedures
• Verify patient identification and test requisitions against nursing station logs
• Maintain accurate lab logs, file reports, and assemble patient charts with appropriate lab reports
• Monitor glucose levels and perform bleeding-time tests, reporting results to providers
• Perform waived lab testing and collect therapeutic drug-monitoring assays
• Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time
• Resolve unusual test orders by contacting physicians, pathologists, or reference laboratories

Requirements

• High school diploma
• Successful completion of an accredited Phlebotomy or Certified Medical Assistant program
• At least one year of experience working in a hospital or doctor's office
• Experience with pediatric patients and performing waived lab testing
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology and office practices
• Excellent grammar and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• National certification
• Bi-lingual capabilities
