Pharmacy Technician

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist with serving patients and maintaining the pharmacy department
• Receive, verify, and process prescriptions electronically with accuracy
• Select medications, measure dosages, and fill prescriptions per protocol
• Resolve issues such as rejected insurance claims
• Communicate with Spanish-speaking patients to address questions and needs
• Answer incoming calls for orders and refills and perform follow-up calls
• Greet customers and provide a caring service experience
• Sterilize surfaces and equipment and prepare the pharmacy for opening
• Sort, stock, label medications, and monitor inventory
• Package orders and coordinate medication delivery or shipments
• Communicate with insurance carriers for prescription claims
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and security standards
• Undertake administrative tasks and record-keeping

Requirements

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification or completion of a pharmacy technician program
• At least one year of proven experience as a pharmacy technician
• Knowledge of medication/dosage calculations, pharmacy law, and medical terminology
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Micro Merchant pharmacy systems
• Experience serving diverse, multilingual patient populations
