Personal Support Worker

Responsibilities

• Assist in the delivery of fundamentals of care, including hygiene, dressing, oral care, and vital signs
• Support patient mobilization using correct techniques and appropriate assistive devices such as walkers, lifts, and wheelchairs
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including toileting, feeding, and hydration
• Monitor and document patient nutritional status, food/fluid intake, and output
• Measure and report patient weight and collect/label specimens according to hospital policy
• Escort and transport ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients as required
• Maintain professional boundaries and respect patient rights, dignity, and confidentiality
• Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to implement care strategies and behavioral management

Requirements

• Successful completion of a PSW program from an accredited community college
• Current registration with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA)
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate
• Physical stamina to handle daily mild to moderate physical exertion, including constant standing, walking, and frequent movement

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in acute care or an emergency department setting
• Behavioral management training
