Payroll Team Leader

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring all cycles are delivered accurately, on time, and in compliance with legislative and industrial requirements
• Provide hands-on people leadership to a team of Payroll Officers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and capability growth
• Act as the primary technical escalation point for complex payroll queries, calculations, and interpretations
• Ensure strong payroll controls, reconciliations, audits, and sign-off processes are strictly adhered to
• Maintain deep expertise in awards, enterprise agreements, payroll legislation, and system configuration
• Identify and lead process improvement opportunities to reduce manual effort, errors, and duplication
• Partner with HR, Retail Operations, Finance, and Systems teams to resolve issues and improve outcomes
• Manage payroll risks, incidents, and remediation actions with clear communication and accountability

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience leading payroll operations within a large, complex organisation
• Strong technical payroll expertise, including deep knowledge of legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements
• Proven experience in improving payroll processes, controls, and systems
• Experience leading and developing a team in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and risk awareness
