About the role
Responsibilities
- Execute end-to-end payroll processing for bi-weekly, monthly, and summer cycles.
- Perform data entry for new hires, including job codes, wages, taxes, and direct deposits.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and faculty regarding payroll inquiries.
- Manage complex compensation adjustments, including faculty status changes, grants, stipends, and annual salary increases.
- Calculate final payouts for terminations, leave plan balances, and prorated benefit costs.
- Process external agency payments such as garnishments, tax levies, and child support.
- Prepare and file quarterly and annual payroll tax returns (941s, W-2s, and 1095-C).
- Support the transition from legacy systems to the new Rippling HRIS.
- Allocate compensation budgets and provide reporting to managers to monitor actual results.
- Prepare audit schedules and payroll data for institutional reporting and compliance audits.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 6+ years of progressive, independent hands-on payroll processing experience.
- 3+ years of experience in payroll management.
- Proven experience filing quarterly and annual payroll tax returns.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel for managing large datasets and budget lines.
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical review skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a Higher Education setting.
- Familiarity with federal student aid compliance and Federal Work-Study limits.
- Experience participating in an HRIS or payroll system implementation.
