Payroll Manager

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end payroll processing for exempt and non-exempt employees across a multi-state workforce
• Manage payroll calendar, inputs, approvals, and exception handling
• Process recurring and ad hoc changes including bonuses, commissions, and reimbursements
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, tax, and wage and hour requirements, specifically in California
• Manage multi-state payroll tax compliance, including registrations and quarterly filings
• Partner with Accounting and Finance on payroll journal entries and accrual support
• Partner with People Ops on payroll system configuration and workflows in Rippling
• Build and maintain scalable payroll reporting, dashboards, and SOPs

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, preferably in high-growth environments
• Strong experience processing payroll for both exempt and non-exempt employees
• Deep knowledge of California wage and hour requirements
• Experience with multi-state payroll tax registrations and compliance
• Strong understanding of payroll accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close
• High attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information
• Experience with modern HRIS/payroll systems; Rippling experience is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or hardware industries
• Experience with multi-shift, 24/7 labor shifts
• Experience supporting payroll during rapid headcount growth
• CPP or FPC certification
