Payment Investigator

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve client inquiries regarding payment issues, including sanctions holds, returned funds, and payment cancellations
• Manage end-to-end processing of paper and electronic check items cleared through the Federal Reserve
• Monitor payment queues to ensure timely resolution of flagged or delayed transactions
• Post adjustments, research discrepancies, and process Fed returns
• Collaborate with Compliance, Operations, and Risk teams to resolve complex cases and escalate issues
• Maintain accurate investigation records in accordance with regulatory and internal standards
• Identify process trends and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency
• Support audit and compliance reviews by providing necessary documentation and insights

Requirements

• 3+ years of banking operations experience
• Hands-on expertise in Federal Reserve check clearing, including Fed adjustments and return processing
• Strong understanding of Regulation CC and Federal Reserve check services/settlement processes
• Experience working with core banking systems and item processing platforms
• Proficiency in general ledger reconciliation
• High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
• Ability to manage deadlines within a high-volume, regulated environment
