Patient Transporter

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and efficient transfer of patients to and from various hospital departments and floors
• Practice hospital-approved patient identification procedures to ensure safety
• Communicate pertinent information and unfinished tasks to co-workers to ensure continuity of workflow
• Assist clinical staff with patient procedures and moving patients when necessary
• Operate patient support equipment, including oxygen tanks, Hovermats, and ergo-slides
• Maintain and sanitize gurneys and keep them properly stocked
• Notify the Registered Nurse (RN) prior to transport and upon return
• Transport lab specimens from surgery to the Lab as needed
• Escort visitors and patient families to waiting areas, cafeterias, and other locations
• Perform dispatch duties and stock oxygen tanks throughout the hospital

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or higher level degree
• American Heart Association BLS certification
• Knowledge of good body mechanics for moving, lifting, and transporting patients
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected situations
• Strong communication skills to interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and staff

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a healthcare environment
