About the role
Responsibilities
- Screen hospital patients on-site (bedside or in the ER) to identify eligibility for State, County, and Federal financial assistance programs.
- Review hospital census and referral methods to identify self-pay patients.
- Initiate the application process for assistance programs bedside whenever possible.
- Assist patients with enrollment applications and introduce them to available services.
- Document all screening results and patient information in the onsite tracking tool and hospital computer systems.
- Conduct patient home visits as required to screen for program eligibility.
- Maintain positive working relationships with hospital staff and ensure strict confidentiality of patient information.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills.
- Up-to-date immunizations (required due to the healthcare setting).
- Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in medical coding, medical billing, or eligibility (hospital or government).
- Previous customer service experience.
