Patient Financial Advocate

Responsibilities

• Screen hospital patients on-site (bedside or in the ER) to identify eligibility for State, County, and Federal financial assistance programs.
• Review hospital census and referral methods to identify self-pay patients.
• Initiate the application process for assistance programs bedside whenever possible.
• Assist patients with enrollment applications and introduce them to available services.
• Document all screening results and patient information in the onsite tracking tool and hospital computer systems.
• Conduct patient home visits as required to screen for program eligibility.
• Maintain positive working relationships with hospital staff and ensure strict confidentiality of patient information.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills.
• Up-to-date immunizations (required due to the healthcare setting).
• Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in medical coding, medical billing, or eligibility (hospital or government).
• Previous customer service experience.
