Patient Financial Advocate

Responsibilities

• Screen patients on-site at medical facilities (bedside or ER) to identify eligibility for state, county, and federal assistance programs
• Review hospital census to identify self-pay patients and initiate the application process
• Assist patients with enrollment applications to appropriate agencies
• Document screening results in onsite tracking tools and hospital computer systems
• Conduct face-to-face screenings or follow up via telephone when necessary
• Perform outside field work, including patient home visits, as required
• Maintain positive working relationships with hospital staff and ensure patient confidentiality
• Provide smooth transitions for backend Patient Advocate Specialists to maintain patient relationships

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Basic computer skills
• Reliable transportation for onsite coverage and potential home visits
• Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in medical coding, medical billing, or eligibility assistance
• Previous experience in a customer service role
• Experience with hospital or government assistance programs
