Patient Financial Advocate

Responsibilities

• Screen hospital patients bedside or in the ER for eligibility for State, County, and Federal assistance programs
• Identify self-pay patients by reviewing hospital census and referral methods
• Assist patients with the enrollment application process for appropriate assistance agencies
• Document screening results in onsite tracking tools and hospital computer systems
• Maintain positive working relationships with hospital staff across all departments
• Conduct outside field work, including patient home visits, to screen for program eligibility
• Provide seamless transitions for backend Patient Advocate Specialists to maintain patient relationships
• Maintain accurate logs of referred accounts and report important occurrences to management

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Basic computer skills
• Reliable transportation for onsite coverage and potential home visits
• Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods of time

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in medical coding, medical billing, or eligibility (hospital or government)
• Previous customer service experience
