Patient Financial Advocate

Responsibilities

• Screen hospital patients on-site (bedside or in the ER) to identify eligibility for State, County, and Federal financial assistance programs
• Review hospital census to identify self-pay patients and initiate the application process
• Assist patients with enrollment applications and introduce them to available financial services
• Document all screening results and patient information in the onsite tracking tool and hospital computer systems
• Maintain positive working relationships with hospital staff and provide regular progress updates to client contacts
• Perform outside field work, including patient home visits, as required to screen for program eligibility

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Basic computer skills
• Up-to-date immunizations (required due to the healthcare setting)
• Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods of time

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in medical coding, medical billing, or eligibility (hospital or government)
• Previous customer service experience
