Patient Financial Advocate

Responsibilities

• Screen patients on-site at medical facilities (bedside or ER) to identify eligibility for state, county, or federal assistance programs
• Review hospital census and utilize referral methods to identify self-pay patients
• Initiate the application process for assistance programs bedside whenever possible
• Assist patients with enrollment applications to appropriate agencies
• Document screening results in onsite tracking tools and hospital computer systems
• Conduct field work, including patient home visits, to screen for program eligibility
• Maintain positive working relationships with hospital staff and manage patient transitions to backend specialists
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient and account information

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Basic computer skills
• Reliable transportation for onsite coverage and nearby sites
• Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods of time

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in medical coding, medical billing, or eligibility (hospital or government)
• Previous customer service experience
