About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and technical support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting.
- Obtain vital signs, including temperature, height/weight, oxygen saturation, and pain scores, reporting abnormal values to the RN.
- Assist with patient activities of daily living (ADLs) such as personal hygiene, feeding, toileting, and mobility.
- Perform specimen collection, including blood, urine, stool, and sputum, and transport laboratory specimens.
- Assist with clinical procedures, including wound care, catheterization, and respiratory care tasks like suctioning.
- Monitor and respond to physiologic monitor alarms and patient call lights.
- Maintain a clean and organized patient environment, including stocking supplies and setting up rooms for admissions.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- One of the following: 6 months of experience in skilled long-term or acute care, enrollment in a nursing program with fundamentals completed, 1 year of experience in a short-term care facility, or completion of a CNA program.
- Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities, including lifting, moving, and positioning patients and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) program.
- Basic computer skills.
- Coursework in an Allied Health field.
