Patient Care Technician

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
• Set up and operate hemodialysis machines and perform required machine safety checks
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as permitted by state law
• Monitor patient vital signs, weight, and response to treatment before, during, and after dialysis
• Calculate and enter individual patient dialysis machine programming, including Ultrafiltration (UF) goals
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment by disinfecting machines, chairs, and equipment between treatments
• Document accurate and timely information regarding treatment parameters and patient status in clinical applications
• Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens for testing
• Assist in providing patient education regarding disease processes and treatment adequacy

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• CMS-approved state or national certification (or ability to meet requirements within the required timeline)
• Current CPR certification
• Ability to pass Ishihara's Color Blindness test

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related healthcare facility
