Patient Care Technician

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
• Set up and operate hemodialysis machines and perform required machine safety checks
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as permitted by state law
• Monitor patient response to therapy, including obtaining pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights
• Calculate and enter individual patient dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals and treatment time
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment by disinfecting equipment and surrounding areas between treatments
• Document accurate and timely information regarding patient treatment, vital signs, and parameters in clinical applications
• Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens for collection

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• CMS-approved state or national certification
• Current CPR certification
• Ability to pass Ishihara's Color Blindness test

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related healthcare facility
