Patient Care Technician

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed nurse
• Set up, operate, and monitor hemodialysis machines and equipment
• Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as permitted by state law
• Obtain and record patient vital signs, weights, and treatment parameters
• Monitor patient responses to therapy and report significant changes to the registered nurse
• Prepare and collect laboratory specimens according to specifications
• Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment by disinfecting machines and treatment areas
• Assist in patient education regarding disease processes and treatment adequacy

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• CMS-approved state or national certification
• Current CPR certification
• Ability to pass Ishihara's Color Blindness test
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 40 lbs and prolonged standing

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous patient care experience in a hospital or related healthcare facility
