About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide patient-oriented service in a clinical or front office setting, including greeting and checking in patients.
- Complete the registration process by collecting patient demographics, health information, and verifying insurance eligibility.
- Utilize computer systems to enter and verify patient data in real-time to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Process referrals, pre-certifications, pre-determinations, and pre-authorizations according to insurance plan requirements.
- Collect patient co-pays and discuss out-of-pocket financial obligations with patients.
- Identify and attempt to collect outstanding balances from previous patient visits.
- Respond to patient and caregiver inquiries regarding routine and sensitive topics with compassion and respect.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of registration requirements for various units, including Main Admitting, ED, and Maternity.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1+ years of experience in a customer service role (e.g., hospital, office, or phone support).
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to work 100% onsite at St. Joe's Hospital in Phoenix, AZ.
- Ability to work a Per Diem/On-call schedule with flexibility for 8-hour shifts.
- Access to reliable transportation and a valid US driver's license.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a hospital patient registration department, physician office, or medical setting.
- Experience requesting and processing financial payments.
- Experience with insurance reimbursement and financial verification.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
- Understanding of insurance policies and procedures.
- Ability to perform basic mathematics for financial transactions.
