Part-Time Faculty: Vocal Techniques for Musical Theater

MM in Vocal Performance or Pedagogy, experience teaching contemporary commercial music, knowledge of musical theater repertoire, piano skills preferred
About the role
Responsibilities
- Teach private vocal technique lessons to musical theater majors and non-majors
- Present biweekly studio classes each semester
- Participate in end-of-semester student juries
- Develop and update course syllabi and prepare lectures or student assignments
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours and provide timely grading
- Help prepare students at all levels for auditions, evaluations, and productions
- Build positive rapport with students and faculty members
Requirements
- MM in Vocal Performance or Pedagogy (extensive professional or teaching experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree)
- Demonstrable experience teaching contemporary commercial music (jazz, pop, rock, and Broadway styles)
- Strong knowledge of musical theater repertoire
- Ability to teach foundational skills including music reading, sight-singing, rhythmic accuracy, and song analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent piano skills
- Performance background in theater
- Demonstrated commitment to the advancement of equity, aesthetic diversity, and cultural wealth
