About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform highly skilled professional planning for long-range park and trail systems, master planning, and resource management.
- Manage major, complex, or controversial projects with significant public impact or community implications.
- Interpret and apply planning principles, County code, and state laws to provide technical advice to staff and officials.
- Utilize design skills to assist in the development of park and trail infrastructure.
- Prepare complex technical reports, special studies, graphic presentations, and administrative correspondence.
- Lead public meetings, participate in stakeholder groups, and maintain effective relations with the community and governmental bodies.
- Assist in securing Federal and State grants and developing project proposals or bid processes.
- Provide guidance and leadership to less experienced staff and may supervise subordinate team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in planning, landscape architecture, engineering, architecture, or a related field, plus 2 years of experience in a comparable planning position (Planner II level).
- OR a Master's degree in planning, landscape architecture, or a related field, plus 1 year of experience in a comparable planning position.
- Demonstrated knowledge of planning principles and County code.
- Proficiency in design skills related to park and trail development.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with the public and Board of County Commissioners.
