About the role

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations within the Library Preservation and Archives facility (PARC), including organizing, assessing, and processing materials.
  • Perform catalogue maintenance, bibliographic updating, and metadata verification using specialized library software.
  • Execute material retrievals, deliveries, and returns, including driving a delivery vehicle for transfers between library locations.
  • Operate an order selection vehicle to retrieve and store materials at heights up to 30 feet.
  • Conduct basic preservation assessments and ensure the physical integrity of incoming materials.
  • Resolve operational issues related to inventory, container tracking, and equipment problems.

Requirements

  • High School graduation plus a two-year Library Technician diploma.
  • Three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid BC driver’s license.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 20 kgs (45 lbs) and push fully loaded book trucks.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 30 feet and tolerate specific environmental conditions (10°C temperature and 30% humidity).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of library policies, circulation services, and bibliographic records.
  • Proficiency in library database systems (e.g., Voyager, LAS) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Experience driving large delivery trucks.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
