About the Company

The Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs (WLC) works to create legal, economic, and social equity through litigation, client and public education, and public policy advocacy with a primary focus on racial justice. For the last 55 years, the Committee has been on the cutting edge of civil rights advocacy in the region.

Responsibilities

• Conducting intakes for new potential cases and clients
• Managing dockets and maintaining organized, up-to-date case files
• Supporting litigation and case development
• Drafting and updating relevant informational guides
• Providing administrative support for client and witness meetings
• Facilitating document retention and return policies
• Ensuring case accessibility (interpretation, translation, OCR compatibility)
• Updating the client management system
• Participating in the coordination of undergraduate interns

Requirements

• Ability to commit at least two years of service
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities
• Proficiency in Excel and Outlook
• Willingness to learn case management software like Legal Server

Preferred Qualifications

• Spanish fluency for interviewing or counseling clients
• Experience working with diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
• Deep passion for civil rights and racial justice advocacy
