The Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs (WLC) works to create legal, economic, and social equity through litigation, client and public education, and public policy advocacy with a primary focus on racial justice. For the last 55 years, the Committee has been on the cutting edge of civil rights advocacy in the region.
Responsibilities
- Conducting intakes for new potential cases and clients
- Managing dockets and maintaining organized, up-to-date case files
- Supporting litigation and case development
- Drafting and updating relevant informational guides
- Providing administrative support for client and witness meetings
- Facilitating document retention and return policies
- Ensuring case accessibility (interpretation, translation, OCR compatibility)
- Updating the client management system
- Participating in the coordination of undergraduate interns
Requirements
- Ability to commit at least two years of service
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities
- Proficiency in Excel and Outlook
- Willingness to learn case management software like Legal Server
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish fluency for interviewing or counseling clients
- Experience working with diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
- Deep passion for civil rights and racial justice advocacy
