About the role
Responsibilities
- Support a collaborative defense team of trial attorneys, paralegals, investigators, and social workers
- Conduct client interviews and speak with witnesses
- Perform legal research and case analysis
- Collect and review mitigation materials and evidence
- Prepare documents for hearings and trials, including bail packages
- Assist with field investigations and observe court proceedings
- Organize case files and exhibits
Requirements
- Undergraduate junior (rising senior), senior, or post-baccalaureate graduate
- Resident of New York City or the neighboring area
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Demonstrated commitment to public defense and advocacy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency or professional proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, or other languages
