Painter II

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled surface preparation, bodywork, masking, and painting for large custom fire apparatus and specialty vehicles
• Prepare surfaces through sanding, cleaning, and conditioning to ensure high-quality adhesion
• Apply primers, sealers, base coats, clear coats, and specialty coatings using HVLP spray equipment
• Perform bodywork and surface repairs using fillers and glazing putties to correct imperfections
• Execute wet sanding, buffing, and polishing to achieve final high-quality finishes
• Operate and maintain paint booth systems, bake cycles, and various paint shop tools
• Inspect finished surfaces for defects such as runs, orange peel, or adhesion issues and perform necessary corrections
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace in accordance with 5-S philosophy and safety standards

Requirements

• Experience in automotive, industrial, heavy truck, or custom vehicle painting
• Working knowledge of spray application techniques and paint preparation
• Ability to use paint shop tools including HVLP spray guns, buffers, and sanders
• Basic math and measuring skills for accurate material mixing
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform repetitive motions, standing, and bending
• Ability to wear required respiratory protection and PPE for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with color sanding, buffing, and final finish polishing
• Knowledge of blending techniques
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices
• Ability to perform minor troubleshooting and adjustment of paint equipment
