Painter I

Responsibilities

• Apply sub-coatings and finish coatings to metal components and completed vehicles in both solid and metallic colors
• Mix coatings with thinner and catalyst using color mixture equipment to meet specific requirements
• Operate various types of spray equipment to achieve required coverage and gloss standards
• Inspect painted materials for proper surface condition and perform necessary repairs
• Maintain spray equipment to operational standards and assist with cleaning and staging parts
• Follow all hazardous waste disposal programs, fire prevention procedures, and safety protocols
• Ensure hazardous waste is placed in proper containers and maintain storage containers in a closed position

Requirements

• GED or High School Diploma (GED may be obtained within the first year of employment)
• Ability to operate spray equipment in confined spaces
• Ability to operate a hand control crane
• General knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs without assistance
• Ability to work in high heat (above 100 degrees) and noisy, dusty conditions
• Ability to wear a paint respirator for more than 10 hours per day
• Strong hand-eye coordination and ability to differentiate between color shades

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months of automotive-quality paint experience or prior acceptable training
