Overnight Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients and assist with feeding, exercising, and grooming
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, and administer medications as directed by licensed technicians
• Assist doctors and technicians with patient restraint and medication administration
• Perform laboratory tests, take radiographs, and maintain accurate medical records
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment including EKGs, fluid pumps, and anesthetic monitors
• Maintain hospital cleanliness by cleaning equipment, kennels, and facilities
• Communicate positively with clients to ensure they feel comfortable leaving their pets

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 1 year of experience as a veterinary assistant
• Ability to restrain cats and dogs
• Ability to perform laboratory work
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform strenuous tasks involving constant motion
• Ability to work with sick animals, cleaning chemicals, and gas anesthetics

Preferred Qualifications

• One or more years of experience in an emergency veterinary setting
