About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide breastfeeding information, education, support, and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding women within the WIC program
- Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions and facilitate group education and support groups
- Assist in marketing and outreach activities for the WIC and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program
- Collaborate with community partners and provide referrals to community service providers
- Manage breast pump distribution, inventory control, and maintain appropriate records and reports
- Attend staff meetings, breastfeeding trainings, and workshops as required
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Personal breastfeeding experience (must have breastfed at least one baby for a minimum of 6 months)
- Familiarity with the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program
- Computer literacy, including knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheets, and database management
- Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license and access to regular transportation
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Ability to provide culturally aware, client-driven service while following HIPAA guidelines
