Outdoor Program - Assistant Director

Responsibilities

• Teach or co-teach 1-1.5 credits of outdoor leadership courses on campus during the Fall and Spring semesters
• Team-teach the Advanced Topics of Outdoor Leadership (Guide Training) course in the Spring
• Manage campus facilities including the indoor climbing wall, rental equipment, and canoe livery
• Supervise, manage, and develop technical skill programs such as climbing, paddling, skiing, or biking
• Perform administrative duties including student staff oversight, outreach, trip planning, and logistics
• Collaborate with and mentor Outdoor Program Coordinators

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational experience
• 1-3 years of experience leading multi-day technical trips and teaching outdoor leadership
• Instructor training experience in disciplines such as rock climbing, mountaineering, backcountry skiing, or paddling
• Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR certifications
• Experience as a climbing instructor or manager of a climbing wall facility

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional experience with organizations like NOLS, Outward Bound, or similar college outdoor programs
• Professional certifications from outdoor organizations (e.g., ACA, AMGA, PCIA, PSIA, PMBIA)
• Instructor trainer credentials for specific disciplines
• Experience hiring and training student staff
• Master’s degree
