About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed OSP engineering tasks including estimating, analyzing, designing, and planning for copper and fiber cable networks
- Develop engineering designs for poles, conduit routes, and buried facilities
- Prepare and interpret engineering plans, drawings, loop loss designs, and technical reports
- Design and support network infrastructure including FTTH, DSL, Metro-E, SONET, and other telecom transport technologies
- Track project budgets and compare estimated versus actual costs
- Conduct field data collection, measurements, and inspections
- Prepare and organize permit packages for submission to local jurisdictions
- Maintain project documentation, records, and files
- Perform quality control reviews and periodic inspections
- Collaborate with engineering teams, municipalities, and stakeholders
- Develop engineering work orders for routine and complex OSP projects
- Provide technical guidance regarding network equipment installation
Requirements
- Experience designing and engineering OSP telecom infrastructure (fiber and copper)
- Strong understanding of OSP principles and telecom industry practices
- Experience with right-of-way acquisition, easements, and permitting
- Ability to identify existing voice/data plant and electric utilities in site plans and field environments
- Familiarity with PC applications, engineering databases, and CAD systems
- Understanding of telecom network systems like FTTH, DSL, Metro-E, and SONET
- Knowledge of circuit design and network equipment functionality
- Familiarity with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
- Must possess field engineering tools including a measuring wheel, height stick, pull finder, and laptop
