Orthopedic Technician

Responsibilities

• Apply, adjust, and remove casts and splints, including assembling orthopedic splints from various materials
• Fit and adjust walking aids such as canes, crutches, and walkers, and provide patient instruction on their use
• Assist orthopedic surgeons with fracture or dislocation reductions and minor surgical procedures
• Prepare patients for procedures by taking vitals, measurements, and setting up specialized equipment
• Provide patient education regarding pre- and post-operative care, cast maintenance, and simple physical therapy exercises
• Manage clinical administrative tasks including triaging appointments, monitoring orthopedic schedules, and ordering supplies
• Maintain clinical environments by cleaning and stocking exam and treatment rooms

Requirements

• 2+ years of related experience in an orthopedic or clinical setting
• Strong knowledge of orthopedic concepts and the ability to recognize fractures on x-rays
• Proven expertise in casting techniques
• Intermediate computer skills, including MS Office and health information retrieval systems
• Demonstrated strong communication abilities for patient interaction and team collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of an Orthopedic Training Program
• Certification by the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT)
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Previous experience as a Medical Assistant
