Orthopaedic Technologist

Responsibilities

• Provide care to clients with orthopaedic problems through the application, adjustment, and removal of casts, splints, and traction fittings
• Perform casting services primarily in the Fracture Clinic setting
• Manage dressing removal, removal of sutures, staples, and pins related to external fixation
• Measure and fit patients for orthopaedic devices and ambulatory aids
• Instruct patients and families regarding care and proper use of appliances, casts, slabs, or braces
• Assist in the application, maintenance, and adjustment of traction
• Fabricate and apply splints and bandages
• Order and maintain equipment and orthopaedic supplies
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Graduate from a recognized Orthopaedic Technologist Programme sanctioned by the C.S.O.T or equivalent training
• Basic understanding of anatomy
• Ability to apply and remove all types of casts, splints, and orthopaedic devices
• Understanding of theory and application of skin and skeletal traction
• Understanding of aseptic technique in dressing change, pin/suture removal, and surgical field setup
• Previous experience in Meditech Expanse preferred
