About the role
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate instruments, equipment, and other items following industry standards (UMHS/AAMI/AORN)
- Assemble, package, and prepare instrument sets and other reusable items
- Perform sterilization tasks including Steam, EtO, H2O2, and Pasteurization
- Operate department equipment safely and competently
- Follow policies for sterilization testing and monitoring, including accurate documentation of BI reports and challenge tests
- Distribute processed items according to site-specific practices, such as case carts
- Report any concerns regarding processing or sterilization to management
Requirements
- Graduate of an Instrument Processing Program, including a completed externship
- For Level II: Certification and a minimum of 1.5 years of CSS experience
- For Level II: Demonstrated competency with 80% of trays within assigned work areas
- Ability to take rotating weekend call with a 30-minute response time
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow direction
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of CSS experience (for Level I candidates)
