Optometrist

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary clinical contact for patients within an optometrist-led service model.
• Obtain accurate ophthalmic and medical histories and perform comprehensive refractions.
• Conduct preliminary clinical assessments and identify patient needs prior to ophthalmologist review.
• Perform diagnostic imaging and investigations, including OCT, visual fields, topography, biometry, and fundus photography.
• Document all clinical findings, imaging, and assessment results accurately in electronic medical records.
• Recognize abnormal findings and escalate urgent clinical concerns to the treating doctor.
• Collaborate with ophthalmologists, nursing staff, and technicians to ensure efficient patient flow and clinic operations.
• Maintain high standards of infection prevention, patient safety, and equipment care.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Optometry.
• Valid DOH / HAAD license (or eligibility for licensure) to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
• 3–5 years of post-qualification clinical experience, preferably in an ophthalmology or hospital setting.
• Proven experience in refraction, patient assessment, and ophthalmic diagnostic testing.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient counseling and multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in contact lens practice, including specialty contact lenses.
• Familiarity with specialist eye care patient pathways.
