Optics Inspection Analysis Software Developer

Responsibilities

• Analyze existing image processing and analysis code written in MATLAB, Perl, and Java
• Reimplement MATLAB image processing routines in Python using OpenCV and scikit-image
• Implement unit tests, integration tests, and performance benchmarking
• Maintain and enhance the modernized codebase and documentation
• Contribute to coding standards, testing frameworks, and CI/CD practices
• Collaborate with NIF scientists and stakeholders to clarify requirements
• Mentor team members in Python and modern software engineering techniques

Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field
• Significant software development experience using Python 3
• Experience with image processing or signal processing using OpenCV, scikit-image, NumPy, SciPy, or Pandas
• Advanced knowledge of MATLAB programming and automated testing
• Experience with code profiling and performance optimization
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related technical field
• Experience reengineering large software projects into new languages and architectures
• Proficiency with SQL and Oracle databases
• Experience with Git-based workflows (GitLab, GitHub, or Bitbucket)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Docker containers
