Optical Transport Operations Engineer 2

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day transport network activities, including scheduled and emergency maintenance and change execution
• Monitor Ciena 6500 Backbone Transport networks to ensure network health and respond to alarms or incidents
• Troubleshoot down services in Ciena and Nokia environments to prevent outages or service disruptions
• Manage incident, work order, and change tickets to track outages, coordinate dispatches, and document risks
• Perform break/fix support for hardware, fiber, or transport path failures
• Coordinate RMA support for faulty equipment and engage vendors for fiber repair and hardware replacement
• Validate maintenance activities by verifying alarms, light levels, and circuit stability

Requirements

• 2-3 years of experience in Transport Engineering or a technical role supporting transport service deployment or operations
• Strong knowledge of DWDM networks
• Proficiency with Ciena 6500 Photonic, OTN, Ethernet Networking, and Data Communications (TCP/IP)
• Experience with Nokia PSS1830 and NFMT
• Ability to handle stressful situations and solve complex technical issues under time constraints
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

• Layer 2 networking knowledge
• Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate designs and circuit identification for complex troubleshooting
• Ability to make timely and accurate assessments of complex technical situations
