Optical Research Engineer

Responsibilities

• Support fiber optic interconnect product development as part of a global optical science team
• Supervise, train, and guide a small team of technicians to complete requested tests
• Establish intellectual property strategies and analyze competitor technology
• Develop test plans and methods, prepare samples, conduct tests, and analyze data
• Manage laboratory facilities, including equipment repairs, upgrades, and procurement
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve operations and value stream projects
• Ensure technical claims in published literature are accurate and supported by data

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
• Three years of optical design experience in a private, public, government, or military environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in optical science, engineering, mechanical engineering, or physics
• Five years of optical design experience or experience in fiber optics for communications systems
• Familiarity with data center systems architecture and networking
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
• Proficiency with a variety of laboratory test equipment
• Mechanical aptitude with designing and building fixtures
• Experience interpreting industry standards and product qualification testing
• Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills
